For any ski-buffs unable to get away this season there is a fun and festive treat in store at the Alpine Lodge at the OGH Hotel. With reindeer heads adorning the wooden walls, a flickering fire and a snow machine for that legit skiing feel, you need look no further for a taste of the slopes.
The team at the OGH were inspired to create the Alpine Lodge because of a similar initiative OGH event manager Holly Gwyn was part of at one of the OGH’s sister hotels in London, the Montague on the Gardens Hotel.
‘People are looking for an experience now. Gone are the days when people just wanted a sit down 3-course meal; now it’s all about trying something different,’ said Holly.
The Alpine Lodge serves food and drinks in a really relaxed environment. It’s more canapés and bar stools than formal dining. Patrons can book their Ski Pass for 3 hours for either a lunch time or an evening slot – from 12pm at lunch time or starting from 5.30pm in the evening. For £39 per person, you receive a glass of mulled wine or cider on arrival, a festive platter, a shot of flavoured vodka or schnapps and a drinks token from the bar.
The food platters include delicious warming food; Swiss Gruyere and onion soup, turkey and chestnut mushroom cheese wheel pasta, festive pin wheel sausage, sauerkraut and brioche bun with a Black Forest Gateau slice to finish (vegan/gluten free/dairy free also available).
Opening on 16 November, you need to book your tickets quickly if you want the Alpine experience.
‘It has proven to be really popular. We have already sold more than 1000 ski passes, but there are still some available for the last half of November and some of December. I’d recommend people book as soon as they can so they don’t get disappointed!’ said Holly.
Most of the Alpine Lodge experience is aimed at adults but Sunday lunchtimes are when children will be welcomed into the skiing experience. Islandmums members get a free child’s ski pass for every two adult ski passes ordered. Children age 12-17 eat for £25 or under 12s eat for £15. Fancy dress is welcome, to really feel the part!
There is a ski lift selfie space where patrons are encouraged to take a photo of themselves as if they were about to hit the slopes and upload it to twitter and/or instagram with the hashtag #OGHLodge.
The winners will receive a 7 Night Cruise for two people through the Danube in December 2019 on Uniworld Ship ‘the A’. It will take in some of the best and brightest Christmas Markets in Europe as well as Budapest’s historic Lukacs Thermal Bath as well as a night ice skating in an historic Castle.
Children will also be part of the competition. For kids pictures put hashtag #OGHLodge #Islandmums and be in with a chance to win a free afternoon tea event for your child and 10 of their friends complete with children’s entertainment.
‘It’s a really exciting project to be a part of. We’ve really pulled out all the stops this year for an experience people will want to tell all their friends about,’ said Holly.
